The consonants above have been classified based on the way the sounds are created.
The Ka series of consonants are made by touching the central portion of the tongue with the inner sides of the molar teeth.
The Cha series of consonants are made by touching the frontal tongue lobe with the frontal palate(roof of the mouth)
The TA series of sounds is created by touching the lower portion of the frontal tongue lobe with the palate of the mouth.
The tha series of consonant sounds in Kannada are created by touching the tip of the tongue with the incisors set ot teeth in the front.
The Pa Series of sounds are created by touching the upper and lower lip.
To experience try making the sound without using the technique used. Eg., try saying Pa , Ba, Ma without touching the upper and lower lip. It is not possible and so on..
